Frequently Asked Questions:
Why "Shift"?
We chose to name our business Shift PT & Performance because we understand that big changes take time, consistent effort, intention, and perseverance through the ups and downs of process. We want to help people make long-term, lasting change. We want to help you be BETTER. No gimmicks, no big flashy promises; just a simple understanding that we are in your corner and ready to help you stay on track with the small shifts that will meet your big goals.
What if I’m not an athlete?
We want to help all bodies move better. Period. Come in or call to see what we can do for you. As far as we are concerned movement makes life better. If you are limited by pain or a dysfunctional body part, we want to help. There is no ache, pain or movement goal too small.
Do I need a referral?
No. California is a direct access state and physical therapists are doctors, meaning you can come to PT for 45 days, or12 visits without a prescription from and MD. If you are seeking "performance" or wellness services, no prescription is necessary at any time.
Do you take my insurance?
We are out of network with all insurance. We do not bill your insurance. We provide a "superbill" that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement. This model allows us to best meet your where your are. In this way, we are able to spend more one on one time with you, schedule at your discretion, and generally, provide a more specific quality of care, which means you will likely need fewer visits with us.
What is a “superbill”?
Superbills provide all the information an insurance company needs to create a healthcare claim for Physical Therapy services. Clients who submit superbills to their insurance companies may be reimbursed at the rate of their "out of network" policy.
Will PT help?
We treat a wide variety of problems and movement dysfunctions, and have extensive training in the multifaceted physiological systems that work together for "health". We can screen for injuries, more serious underlying conditions, and if we cannot help, we can assist you in finding someone who can. If you’re not sure whether or not to schedule an evaluation, and would rather not commit, feel free to contact us and we can help you determine your best course of action.
